May Day Celebration Thornden Park water tower, Syracuse, NY.
This year is the 23rd May Day celebrated on Water Tower Hill by Syracuse's original morris team, Thornden Morris. It is the Hounds' 19th appearance. This year will see performances by four area morris and sword teams, as well as the much anticipated mummer play, and, as always, the Maypole dance. Come help us dance up the sun and welcome in the spring. Performance at 6:00 am (dawn!) with Thornden Morris, Ribbonsteel Rapper, Heartwood Morris and Griffin's Corners Morris. [Photo Album]
Red Herring Morris Day of Dance Salem, Lynn & Nahant, MA.
This is our sixth trip to Boston for this dance event hosted by Red Herring Morris.
Lilac Sunday, Arnold Arboretum, Jamaica Plain, MA.
Lilac Sunday is a spring open house for Harvard's Arnold Arboretum. Most of the Boston-area teams get together for a day of dance to help celebrate. Rose Galliard Northwest Morris coordinates and hosts the dancing. This is the Hounds' fourth appearance.
Great Western Tour, Onondaga Lake Park, Syracuse, NY.
We will be joining Thornden Morris and their guests, Great Western Morris from Exeter, Devon, England. Great Western has come to the U.S. to attend the Marlboro Ale in Vermont over Memorial Day weekend and will be dancing with us in Syracuse before heading down to New York City. Performance at Onondaga Lake Park at 7:00.
Wayward Youth Tour, Ithaca Commons, Ithaca, NY.
We will be journeying down to Ithaca to dance at the Ithaca Festival with Heartwood Morris and the Wayward Youth, an ad hoc team of young morris dancers (who will also be dancing in Syracuse on Sunday, June 1, with Thornden Morris and Ribbonsteel Rapper before continuing on to Boston and New York City). Performances at 4:00 and 6:00 in “Bank Alley” just west of the Center Pavilion.
Dog Days Ale, Trumansburg, NY and environs.
We've held this ale pretty much annually since 1994. This will be our sixth time hosting it in the Finger Lakes surrounding Trumansburg, NY. See the Dog Days Ale page for more information.
Plymouth Church East Onondaga St., Syracuse, NY.
The Hounds and Thornden Morris will be dancing at noon in front of Plymouth Church as part of their 150th anniversary celebration.
Toronto Ale, Toronto, Ontario.
This is one of the great urban Ales and is attended by a broad spectrum of wonderful teams; always a lot of fun for us. Hosted by Green Fiddle Morris.
Open Hand Theater, Syracuse, NY.
We'll be performing at Open Hand Theater's InternationalÊMask and Puppet Museum as part of their International Arts and Puppet Festival. We'll be performing at 3:40pm.
Westcott Street Cultural Festival, Syracuse, NY.
We dance in the parade at 11:45 and have two half-hours stands in the street in front of the Petit Library at 1:30 and 2:30.
Hamilton Farmer's Market, Hamilton, NY.
We will be dancing during the morning starting at 11:00 at the Hamilton Farmer's Market. The market is held at the Pavilion on the Hamilton Village Green. [It didn't snow on us this year.]
NOMAD Festival of Traditional Music, Art, and Dance
New Haven Career High School, New Haven, CT.
Performance from 2:00-3:00pm with Three Village Morris and New World Sword.
Rochester Thanksgiving Festival, Rochester, NY.
This dance festival is predominantly Contra Dancing but with some English Country, Swing, Zydeco and Cajun dances and workshops. We'll be giving a demonstration performance with other morris teams from 1:35-1:55pm and we'll be conducting a dance workshop from 2:30-3:30pm. This will be the Hounds' first visit.
