Bassett Street Hounds News
Site News
The Hounds website is periodically updated. This page will try to track changes as they are made. The section that is most frequently updated is the Dance Out listing. For an archive of older changes (pre-blog), see the "What's Old?" page.

Ale Photos Are Up
Thanks to Karin's dedicated uploading, photos from the Dog Days Ale are up. They're still uncaptioned, but that will have to wait a bit. She organized them into three separate albums: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. There's a little bit of everything.
Saturday photos only follow the Yellow tour that the Hounds led. If anybody has photos from either of the other two tours or anything, really, please contact Karin. We will gladly give credit for permission to put them up on the site.

Performance Page Updated
Added the Pokingbrook Morris 30th Anniversary Ale in May and the Chenango MusicFest in June to the Performances page. Also speculated that the Westcott Street festival will be held on the usual weekend and that we'll be allowed back.
Bassett Street Hounds Tunebook
Made a fairly major revison to the Dances page, changing the content and urls of several of the key resources. The main thing to be aware of is that the abc tunebook and, consequently, the pdf version of the tunebook have been resorted so that tune names are in alphabetical order. Also the dance name is added as a second title.

Improved Contact Forms
Actually, the contact form itself is the same, but I jettisoned the table for formatting the active members roster, replacing it with a stylesheet formatted list. I also diddled the contact form itself to display the photo of the contactee.

Email Obfuscation
All personal email addresses on the website should now have been removed and replaced with links to the contact form. No guarantees, however, that this is actually the case as I used a grep to do the find and replacements and something may have slipped through. Contact me if you find one. Also updated the email address for the Ale Invitation Czar to the current one.

Catching Up
There were a few things that had languished on the old site that I'm trying to care of on the new. Here are the highlights.
News Stories Added in the 2003 Syracuse New Times story to the archive.
Photo Album I finally got the mod_rewrites working right so that photo albums can be cited more simply (stripping off the calls to the database). Corresponding with this change, I fixed some links to specific photo albums to use the "better" url. This should make the photo album a little more friendly for Google to index as well.
Oh yeah, I added captions to some of the new albums that Karin uploaded last month but hadn't had time to finish. Still some more work to do, but it is better. Shall we have a suggest a caption contest?

Hounds News Blog
The Hounds are now using MovableType blogging software for the "What's New?" section of its website. A nice by-product of the blogging environment is that we're now able to offer RSS feeds for the news content.

Hounds Contact Form
An addition that I'd been intending to make for the longest time is the creation of a web-based contact page for all the members. The form conceals member's email address so it can't be harvested by spammers.

Dance Outs Page Updated
The 2005 Performance Schedule, including information about the 2005 Dog Days Ale, is now up. More information will be added to the Ale page as the season goes on.
Bassett-Street-Hounds.Org
Just in time for the Hounds' twentieth anniversary, we finally have our own web domain name. We won't tell you not to use the PURL, but isn't http://bassett-street-hounds.org/ much easier to remember?

New Hounds Photo Album
Added an open source software Photo Album called Gallery that lets us upload and manage photos in albums using a web interface. This should reduce the lag time between when photos are taken and when they appear on the web. My wife Karin has been doing most of the uploading since New Years Day and, as I write this, has 690 photos online. We're both still working on captions.
Web Site Redesign
Big change - the Hounds web site is now housed on a new server with an entirely new design. The new server lets us do more with our content and the new design is much closer to compliance with web standards. You will notice that the images on our Welcome page now change everytime you refresh the page. Please use the PURL (Persistent URL) for our site, since it will always get you to the correct location: http://purl.oclc.org/NET/hounds.
