Check-in and Tour Information for the Ale is Up

Everybody who is coming to the 2007 Dog Days Ale should be sure to check the final details. The schedule, tour assignments, and driving directions will probably be of most interest to attendees, but there's no need to print anything, as these will be provided at the Ale.

Of more importance are the directions to camp. No bridges when last checked, so there shouldn't be any unexpected detours to deal with this year.

See you all soon.

Just a note to record that everything under the sun (hopefully there will be sun; no rain allowed) has been thought of and all that remains is to finish buying the food and showing up. We're looking forward to a great time.

Ale Photos Are Up

Thanks to Karin's dedicated uploading, photos from the Dog Days Ale are up. They're still uncaptioned, but that will have to wait a bit. She organized them into three separate albums: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. There's a little bit of everything.

Saturday photos only follow the Yellow tour that the Hounds led. If anybody has photos from either of the other two tours or anything, really, please contact Karin. We will gladly give credit for permission to put them up on the site.

Thanks for a Great Ale

The Hounds would like to thank all the fun and thoughtful folks who attended this year's Dog Day's Ale. You all braved heat, humidity, and threatened thunderstorms to dance and tour with us. It is you all who make this such a wonderful event.

Despite every effort of the Department of Transportation to close every bridge between Trumansburg and camp, we successfully navigated our way in and out and had a great time.

Despite an unexpected covering of algae and weeds on our swimming hole, the determined efforts of one persistent dancer from Shepherdstown to clear it out made scum-free swimming possible. Thanks Wendy!

We tried out some new tours this year, concentrating on the parks and wineries in and near Watkins Glen. For those of us who remember the old Five Days Wonder put on by the Hearts of Oak, this was something of a homecoming. Something about our Ale evokes fond memories of the 5DW, whose tours in Watkins Glen are especially well remembered. For me, anyway, it was like old times made new again. Guests who had never come to the area before all commented on the beauty of the gorge, the beautiful scenery and well-kept Fingerlakes vineyards, and the welcoming audiences that awaited us.

The Sunday tour again featured a visit to Ithaca's Farmers Market, a beautiful open wooden structure with great floors and a friendly ambience. Many of you departed from the Market, so you missed lunch and swim stop back at camp -- those who did go commented on how relaxed it felt -- as well as our final stop at the Rongovian Embassy -- such a cool place.

I will try to get more words up about the Ale soon. If you all have anything you'd like to add, send your comments to Tom and I'll see they get posted.

Woo hoo. Thanks to Tour Czars Susan Galbraith and Dan Clark and their careful planning and scheduling; Tour Flunky Karin Howe and Web Czar Tom Keays for writing out the first draft of the directions and verifying distances and driving times; and Mike Miller and Maria Hosmer-Briggs for driving the directions and making revisions, the tour driving directions are up for the curious and for people arriving late to the Ale on Saturday, who need to meet us enroute. This page also lists tour assignments.

Please note that is not necessary to print these out ahead of time. We will give drivers copies of the directions and will leave a few spares at the ciderhouse back at camp for late arrivals.

Directions to Camp

To our Ale guests: Please note that the directions to camp have been impacted by two bridge closures on Rt.227, both north and south of our campsite. That means that regardless of what direction you come from to get to the Ale, you need to make sure you have updated directions to camp.
