Dog Days Ale 2004
July 16-18, 2004
Thank You

The Hounds would like to thank all the teams who attended this year's Ale and made it the fun event it was. We have put together a small photo album with shots from both days.

Registration and Check In

Check-in any time after 5:00 on Friday, July 16. Snacks will be available from 5:00 - ? on Friday night. Late check-in will be from 8:00 to 9:00 A.M. on Saturday. There will be a Squire's meeting at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday.
This year, we would like everyone to stop in to the registration tent to say hello, receive important communications about the ale, sign up for volunteer duties, get a snack, etc. However, we'd ask each team to designate one person for payments, official check-in, and distribution of buttons and t-shirts. I will give this person a registration packet to be handed out to the rest of the team.
There will be a signup sheet on the cider house asking for volunteers for some small jobs, which the ale czars would greatly appreciate your team's help with, and this is a great way to meet new people! We thank you in advance for your help with these volunteer jobs. You help us make the ale the wonderful event it is!
This year we will reserve a section of the campsites for those families with children. This will facilitate the sharing of child care among parents, making it easier for parents to attend the campfire and still be able to keep an eye on their children.
We would also like to clarify some of the site rules to prevent misunderstandings.
1) Please park along Rumsey Road, on the side closest to Peter's house. We need to keep Peter's driveway clear, although parking in the driveway for the purposes of unloading is fine.
2) Remember that despite this being the Hounds' Dog Days Ale, no actual dogs are allowed on the premises.
3) Please supervise your children. Although the ale site is located in a
safe area with low traffic, there are some intrinsically dangerous aspects
of the site. Children under the age of twelve need to be supervised at all
times in the following areas. This can either be by the parent or by some
other adult who has agreed to watch your child at this time in this area. Do
not just assume that someone will do this. It is not a safe assumption.
a) While wading or swimming
b) In the sauna
c) In the hot tub
d) At the campfire
Thank you all for your help with these matters. It will help make this a safe and enjoyable ale for everyone. [See "A Word From Our Host"]
We look forward to seeing you at the ale!

Tour Schedules and Directions

Ale Participants: Detailed Tour Schedules and Driving Directions. Final schedule information and driving directions and will be distributed at the Ale prior to leaving camp. For late-comers, copies of the maps and driving directions will be left on the left-hand table on the front porch. During the day, no one will be at camp to answer questions. Plan accordingly. Also, the registration packet will include a brochure with the camp schedule and site rules that, as long as we've already done it, might as well be reproduced here. (Hope it is useful.)

T-Shirts Pre-Order Is Over

Team member and graphic artist, Susan Galbraith, has again designed a great T-shirt for the Dog Days Ale themed around the fact that 2004 is a leap year. A few t-shirts in sizes large and extra-large may be available for purchase at the Ale.

Meals At The Ale

All meals from Friday night's light snack to Sunday lunch are included in the Ale fee. The menus for the weekend will consist of vegetarian (largely ovo-lacto, not vegan) dishes. We have tried to anticipate food allergies and restrictions in menu planning. Look at the menus and make sure that we have addressed your specific need. Let us know your restrictions and we'll make an effort to accommodate you. Be sure that your team's squire reports your food restrictions when submitting the final team roster to the Invitation Czar.
A Word From Our Host

Peter Hoover is graciously providing almost complete run of his property. We will be camping on his land. We will erect a large tent and will set up tables and chairs for meals and as a place to congregate should there be rain. We have use of an improved cooking facility built into Peter's cider house and have shifted meal preparation, serving, and what-not away from the front porch area of the house. Ale participants may use Peter's sauna in evening along with its woodstove-fired shower. Peter's clean pond is available for on-site swimming. Such luxury!
However, some restrictions do apply. Peter is asking the following of all Ale participants.
- NO dogs or cats. No exceptions.
- Park along Rumsey Road. Please do not park in or block the driveway. Please do try to park along Peter's side of the road as large farm machines do occasionally need to use the road, and they can't get by otherwise.
- The interior of the house is off-limits, except kitchen crew, who may require minimal use the kitchen facilities for food preparation and associated tasks (although the bulk of this will occur at the cider house); and emergencies.
Directions To Ale Campsite

The Ale camp is based, as in past years, at Peter Hoover's farm, just south-west of Trumansburg, NY.

Off Site Accommodations

We have plenty of space on-site, but for the camping-impaired we offer a selection of bed and breakfasts that are within 10 minutes of the campsite. We encourage those who don't wish to camp on-site to make their reservations for these as soon as possible, as the Finger Lakes are a prominent tourist destination in the summertime.
